Tempo Free Aerial

Here's the graph no conference blog should go without - the tempo free aerial. The horizontal axis is offense (further to the right means better offense), and the vertical axis is defense (further up means better defense).

Final Stats (conference games only).

Wow, look at Penn State. They're defensive stoppers!!! ;)

Only a very few games into conference play, and we already can see pretty clear stratification.

Very likely going to the dance, still at least entertaining thoughts of winning conference:
Michigan State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota

Bubble teams or hoping to be bubble teams, but in serious need of improvement: Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa

Dead and deader: Northwestern, Indiana

I feel good about the top 6 staying together in that grouping. (Yes, even 'sota. They are not, to me, a top 25 squad, but they are well-coached and will beat down on the lower-tier schools.)

Middle tier: Ohio State and Penn State could possibly improve (OSU on defense, PSU on offense), Iowa can get worse, especially if Cyrus Tate is out long.

Dead pool: Northwestern could move up, but the defense looks horrible and the offense should be better. How did Indiana play Michigan so close? They looked awful against Illinois.
